wild thing:: kitschy murals

i thought i would share these with you just because the wall mural was just too amazing. i generally dislike zoos because i hate captivity {even though i am an owner of domestic furballs} - it makes me very sad. this instance was no exception.

but i could not help but get excited that this place just seemed so gosh darn kitschy and i instantly felt like i transported to a scene plucked straight from the royal tenenbaums.

i think it has something to do with the framing or this shot in particular. but i just had to share.

polar bear club

i wonder if he's warm...

these were some of the pictures i took this past weekend when i went to brookfield zoo. the underwater viewing area is such a beautiful room and the light just seemed to hit everything perfectly. then mr. polar bear here decided to go for a swim - jackpot. everyone ran over to that tank and luckily, i caught some of him playing in the water.

it's amazing to me how massive these creatures are - how adorable they are - how innocent they look - but how dangerous they can be. craziness. i loved seeing his fur get wet and watch it float around him like a big, glowing aura. it was so beautiful. he even carried his little bone over to us and then carried it off with him in that last picture. like a little puppy.

what a wonderful day.
