wild thing:: kitschy murals

i thought i would share these with you just because the wall mural was just too amazing. i generally dislike zoos because i hate captivity {even though i am an owner of domestic furballs} - it makes me very sad. this instance was no exception.

but i could not help but get excited that this place just seemed so gosh darn kitschy and i instantly felt like i transported to a scene plucked straight from the royal tenenbaums.

i think it has something to do with the framing or this shot in particular. but i just had to share.

film inspiration:: metropolis

so among the four million things i am currently juggling, i have been managing time slots to get inspired for my new fall//winter 2012 jewelry line. i have a list of old sci-fi movies i had really been wanting to see and now i am finally doing it! woo hoo!

first up on my list was metropolis. i had seen stills from the film, vintage posters for the film, etc. and had always been immensely intrigued. well, there's a reason i was intrigued...it was because it was sooo right. the film was so ahead of it's time in terms of cinematography, set design and just overall art direction that it blows my mind just thinking about it.

what i find so captivating is the sheer genius that is fritz lang. his vision throughout this film is so epically beautiful you seriously have to wonder how on earth all of this was achieved in 1927. i am still just completely dumbfounded by it.

next up on my list:: la planète sauvage

anyone have any other suggestions??

i have completely fallen in love with power art couple pamela reed and matthew rader. their obsession with digital art is definitely our gain. i will let the gifs speak for themselves. some unfortunately wouldn't save properly so they are frozen and others you just have to watch carefully to see what they're doing. from me to you, who?! view their entire stunning portfolio here.

boarding school bohemian :: charlotte taylor f/w 2012

heart be still.

i nearly died when my eyes found charlotte taylor's new fall//winter 2012 lookbook. i can always get behind a line that focuses on bold colors and prints and of course, taylor has always been at the forefront of this category since she left luella to begin a venture in her own name in june of 2009.

i just can't seem to get over how classy and interesting these frocks are and even more amazing?! the styling of this entire shoot - so epic-ly moody and eerie with that hand painted, moonlit canvas background, the snowy white owl and the model's hitchcockian stares.

best of luck charlotte with your new collection. although we know you won't be needing any.

art direction:: harriman steel
photography:: claire pepper
styling:: hayley simmons
model:: rosalind 'roz' jana
makeup:: camilla hewitt
hair:: david wadlow
owl model:: alfie

a day at the circus...with a headdress

i'm sure you are already aware of my intervention-worthy etsy addiction...
which leads me to how i probably came across this lovely shop styling from sabrina tach.

i love the models white bob and freckles but most of all, i absolutely love the costuming. bright pops of color agains a vanilla-y backdrop and leotard. so eye-catching and the bags are pretty nice too.

i totally want to rock that first costume for halloween this year - i love feather plumed structured shoulders.

etsy shop love :: mother may i?

i was stunned when i saw these photographs - in an etsy shop no less!
they're unbelievably lovely. i'm not one to ga-ga for aprons but wow, this shop sure makes me want one.
the art direction and styling is just fabulous. i am loving the sweet little parisian prairie girl feel with the straw hats and kerchiefs and that wallpaper is just heavenly. sigh.

visit the shop here to see more!

r e n e g a d e . h o l i d a y . d i s p l a y . i n s p i r a t i o n

hello folks!

i am still trying to find some time to select my looks for the lookbook roundup today -- meanwhile, i wanted to share some inspiration shots that have been floating around in my head. these are mainly for the renegade holiday booth display that lydia {my awesome booth partner - you may remember her from this post} of pierogi picnic and i are getting ready. i am always so excited by her ideas - we collaborate so well together.

so most of these pictures are from the spectacular little uk shop called comfort station. their store is unbelievable! they have remade old luggage into jewelry displays, have taxidermied fowl floating away with their jewelry, vintage books displaying pinned jewelry -- the art direction and prop-styling is simply mind-blowing.

the picture with marie antoinette is from free people's blog. i love how they have framed their items on the wall with colorful tape and ribbon. it's really fun and playful.

lastly, my favorite piece is one that i received this morning in a newsletter from tokyo milk {i love tokyo milk!!}. it is literally almost the exact setup and colors i described to lydia. i am using moss, natural wood, chalkboard paint and frames for my jewelry display and this is almost exactly it - ♥

well, i hope i didn't bore you too much with my process!
