A MAJESTIC DISORDER

i seem to nowadays meet a lot of friends through social media. i never used to but increasingly i've been finding random locals with similar interests via facebook, instagram or twitter. it's so bizarre but insanely gratifying. almost a year ago, i connected with kelley mullarkey, the brilliant writer behind creative blog, majestic disorder. she was living in chicago as well and we both {at that time} had blogs that focused on creativity and personal style. we messaged back and forth once in a while and it was mentioned that she wanted to feature me on her amazing blog. well, due to intercontinental schedules and so forth, we were finally able to meet in person, interview and shoot, this past saturday. boy, was it ever an experience!

i could not believe how in-depth and professional kelley and her right hand man//fiance, sean were. it was incredible. they work tirelessly around the clock working day jobs, going to school and then managing majestic disorder in their 'free' time. i have an immense amount of respect for those too. the amazing thing about it also was that despite the fact that we shot film, video and went through the entire interview for almost five hours straight, they made it so enjoyable and creative. i was delighted.

shot by kelley for majestic disorder. wearing a lucky vintage score from erin fetherston's closet via shop wasteland.

i couldn't imagine a more perfect day! thank you kelley and sean!

in other news, i finally feel settled into my new-ish apartment thanks to this interview. i had been putting off hanging paintings, etc. for weeks but the fact that majestic disorder would be shooting me in my 'habitat' gave me a reason to finally commit to a design plan. below is a shot of my main work space all tidied up of course.

some things that i love about this little nook::

  • the colorful patterns that surround it {via my curtains and chair}
  • a {severely treasured} watercolor painting of my rabbit charlie by my former boss & dear friend emily
  • my harry potter page to screen book as well as the collector's edition tales of beedle the bard
  • rikka sormunen artwork book entitled big mother - i'm simply nuts about her work - i want to plaster my walls with it
  • vintage silver swan statue
  • lula magazine covers
  • records - especially a lucky brigitte bardot find
  • book of erte fashion
  • bunny figurines from my sister
  • my record player
  • jewelry tools of course
  • cards from family and others i love
  • sketches of new designs i've imagined

A LOVELY DAY IN NEW YORK

i was digging through pictures to print the other day when i stumbled across this one. the lighting is just magnificent. dawn and dusk are spectacular photo taking times that is for sure.

the weather is already dropping to 40 degrees here. i'm going to miss seeing beautiful blooms and blossoms like these for half a year.

i asked someone why the hell i do i not live in san diego...they simply replied, "because it's not chicago." after just getting back from a trip to philly, i completely understood what she meant. i love everything that chicago has to offer. the rich history, the architecture, the city vibe...you can't really get that in san diego. but you can get gorgeous weather and a harbor. i guess it's a tradeoff.

for now, i will just do my best to find a colorful winter jacket to keep me from getting the winter blues.

deserted carnival

who'd have thunk a deserted carnival would prove to be such an inspirational geometric experience...

i happened upon a neighborhood carnival early one morning. the lights on the rides were still flickering but not a soul was in sight. i decided to take that opportunity to capture all of the colors and shapes. i still remember how eerily quiet it was except for the overwhelming hum of electricity still jolting through each machine.

'dillas, dolls and tenenbaums at the museum

i am still going through endless amounts of photos that i have taken, downloaded and then just forgotten about left it my dreaded iphoto folder. and in my opinion, there are some pretty interesting/funny/amazing/horrific photos that i feel the need to share on here.

like gratuitous armadillo handbag shots.
or portraits of victorian activities that resemble something more out of a wes anderson flick than anything else.
or portraits of children that look like they're all dolled up for a pageant.

this needs to be let loose people. so here it is in all of it's weirdly awesome glory.

all of these were taken on the 4th of july when my friend christina and i decided to skip town on a road trip and head to the milwaukee art museum. brilliant idea, christina. best fourth of july to date.

everything as it is.

everything in my life has sort of run to the way side after i got sick. now that i'm healthy again, i don't even know where to begin. piles of nonsense have taken over. my wax creature collection has definitely grown thanks to a fun trip to the field museum. i am in love with the vintage mermaid gown i found on etsy. i've been making jewelry for shows coming up. three to be exact: dose market, randolph street market and renegade holiday.

here is everything as i know it, right now.

randolph street market recap

all images from top to here are of STC Finds

the vitrolum republic. these guys played incredible music. so much so that i actually bought their cd. i can't remember the last time i bought a cd!

pictures from here up to the music photo are of Bleeker Street Antiques

these images from here to bleeker street are of jonathan's. please email me if you'd like contact information for this vendor.

images from here to jonathan's are of Don and Marta Orwig's antiques. please email me if you would like their contact information.

such wonderful treasures to discover this past weekend at the randolph street market! i seriously become increasingly thrilled with each vendor's setup. extremely talented that's for sure. i had four favorites as far as curation and display goes:

  • Denise Odell at Bleeker Street Antiques
    • her neutral whitewash color palette is so fresh and elegant
    • i loved that she used horns to display beautiful silver jewelry
  • Brian and Sumaya at STC Finds
    • i could literally live in their display - it's so marvelously utilitarian and bohemian at the same time
    • their tote bags are killer...definitely a must have for fall
  • Jonathan Stigler at Jonathan's
    • he has an incredible knack for making industrial hardware look ultra chic
    • i was obsessed with his adorable and colorful retro synchronized swimmers
  • Don at Don and Marta Orwig
    • they have some of the most handsome and rare antiques - like their amber ghost chairs or oddfellows hand painted banner...which both were to die for i might add!
    • add on the giant luggage collection, almost-petrified and mounted tree trunk slice and a giant molar and you can bet i'll begin to develop a deeply rooted hoarding problem
get ready for the next market this september on the 29th & 30th. find out more here!

and below was one of my many purchases for my dad...a fellow lover of aviation. especially retro models. he was so excited when i have it to him.
